Drama Club

The Drama Club here at SVHS is open to anyone and everyone! If you have a passion for drama or just want to find other people who are as enthusiastic about theater as you are then feel free to join us!

Every Friday during lunch we meet in room E201 (Ms. Kannegaard's classroom) and address events held by the department, play acting games, and listen to show tunes. The Drama Club is always open to suggestions as they can help the club become more interactive and inclusive! If you want to stay updated outside of club meetings follow @svhs.drama on instagram!

Bad Auditions by Bad Actors
A casting director has one day to find the leads for a community theater production of Romeo and Juliet. But what seems like a simple task proves impossible when the pool of actors includes extreme method actors, performers who just don't know what to do with their hands, and one particular woman who may or may not think she's a cat. This hilarious comedy will bring you to the last place you'd ever want to be...behind the doors of a casting session.
➥ Auditions will be held January 8th in E201 (Drama Room)
➥ Do not memorize a monologue! Sides will be provided!
Newsies
Jack Kelly and his ragtag team of newsboys make a meager living selling newspapers on the city streets of New York City. But when the prices of “papes” are hiked and the newsies are hung out to dry, there is nothing left to do but “open the gates and seize the day!” Led by charismatic Jack and independent, young newspaper reporter Katherine Plumber, the newsies form a union and organize a strike against the greedy publisher of the New York World. Can a group of idealistic newsboys win against a foe as powerful as acclaimed publisher Joseph Pulitzer?

Shows & Performances

Here at Scotts Valley High School we hold three productions every year. Starting in the fall we produce the Fall Play, this year being The Bold, The Young and The Murdered, a murder mystery comedy following the dysfunctional soap opera cast and crew of The Bold and The Young. After finals and Winter Break, auditions for both the Winter Play and the Spring Musical are held early January. The Winter Play this year will be Bad Auditions by Bad Actors and will be directed by our lovely student directors Sebastian Hardison and Jenelle Jacob! Auditions will take place the first Wednesday after break (January 8)! The biggest student involved production of the year is the Spring Musical. It has FINALLY been announced that the musical this year will be NEWSIES!!! Auditions will be held January 13-16!

Involvement in shows is greatly encouraged as you can build friendships throughout the length of the shows. There are many roles to participate in throughout every show such as acting, house management, crew, makeup, costume, green room, tech etc.. Being involved in any position throughout the shows is a joyous time and is highly encouraged!
